Summer heels, or “Summeels,” aren’t what I’d call any shoes you’d wear to have a standout summer (such as these beauties).
No, instead, my made-up term is meant to represent that particular condition characterized by dry heels caused by summer’s typical dry weather combined with the constant slaps our feet receive from sandals/flip flops/the floor when walking barefoot.
I get them every other summer, it seems. Do you? Well, not to worry, because I have a solution that I really hope works for you because of how great it’s worked pour moi.
But first let’s say you practice pretty healthful habits already in order to keep hydrated, such as drinking eight+ glasses of water and eating plenty of watery fruits and veggies. So WHY are your heels still dry and blistery? (If you’re not doing these, though, make sure you incorporate these habits into your lifestyle asap!)
As promised, here’s my Super Easy Summeel Healing Regime:
Perfect for this! |
- Intensely rub a dime-to-nickel-sized squirt of Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion all over each of your feet (paying special attention to your heels) WITH a pumice stone
- Leave each foot to dry for a bit –i.e., while you rub the other foot with the lotion and the pumice stone
- Repeat as desired
- Massage a smaller squirt all over each foot for a few seconds
- Cover feet with socks
That last step is crucial!
OK, OK, I know it’s summer so you may not want to wear socks. Ew, gross, you might think. But know that socks are vital to help retain the moisture you’re working oh-so-hard to obtain. If it gets unbearably hot, then wear the socks for a while while you do something else and then take them off before dozing off.
I get your dilemma, though: Since I started my summeel healing regime, I’ve personally been wearing them while I read in bed and then promptly take them off before drifting off. That way I helped seal in some of my hard work while delegating the rest to my duvet cover.
THEN when it’s colder (which, oddly enough, I’m not looking forward to except for to do this >>), I’ll be better able to repair the damage during all my seven-eight hours of sleep!
The Lotion
Honestly, Aveeno’s Daily Moisturizing Lotion couldn’t have come at a better time. We all have our favorite remedies and lotions and balms and butters and what-not. But after having used this lotion by Aveeno for over a month, I’m thrilled to admit it is so refreshing! It’s almost gel-like and really smooth. It also has no fragrance, which is very welcome.
This is the lotion you need in your Summeel Healing Regime: It’s strong enough to withstand the intense friction of the pumice stone on your foot without drying too soon YET smooth enough to accompany your foot while you rub with that stone. In other words, it dries considerably fast, but not SO fast that your heel might end up getting hurt by the stone, if that makes sense.
Talk about having noticeably moisturized and stronger heels that I’m not afraid to show off! Blisters be dam*ed!
