Today was my first day as an intern at a local marketing agency. With the exception of two classes in college, I’m used to first days usually being dedicated to have a syllabus read by a prof and at the same time, be big time-wasters.
Now about three weeks ago, the agency’s president sent me a packet with documents that explained my responsibilities, weekly duties, the agency’s background, etc., and sort of gave me a thorough introduction to what my work at the agency would be like.
Then I was pleasantly surprised when today, instead of reading anything (well, I did start reading the latest Adweek at work), I actually ended up meeting with all my coworkers to learn what they did and how their work fit into the whole agency puzzle. In short, I noticed how EACH one of my colleagues is soo nice, and soo talented/gifted/savvy, that I’m honored I was considered talented/savvy/gifted enough to join their team.
Granted, I have a few coworkers and our offices span half a story of a downtown building (so these meetings were easy to coordinate), but honestly, if that is how this agency treats its interns (with the introductory packet, the meetings and the everlasting stream of smiles) I can only imagine how it treats its clients and even how dedicated the staff is to their work.
Tomorrow, I’m joining a project team to plan a client event and I’m so excited! Wish me luck!
