Earlier this week, I gave a preview of my reaction to some changes my B-School recently announced it was making. Here is the continuation of these thoughts…
2. Allow students greater opportunity to engage in the various experiential learning opportunities available on campus, such as the University Venture Fund, the Student Consulting Initiative (never heard of it), the Pierre Lassonde Entrepreneur Center, the Hinckley Institute of Politics, Study Abroad, and many more. (This is especially vital, as we need different venues besides Business through which we can excel and take our Biz education further.)
3. Increase the interdisciplinary nature of our degree by working with the University’s College of Humanities and College of Social and Behavioral Sciences to create new courses for business students.
(As a student working on her Honors Thesis through another department [the red tape was unimaginable], I know this change in particular will be greatly appreciated. For once “rebels” like me will have a home and it’ll be finally be easier for them to be loyal to not just the DESB.)4. Offer a revised Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) major that offers a greater breadth of business knowledge, while still allowing disciplinary depth for students who desire it. (Here’s my thing with a Biz Admin degree: Any other B-School graduate, regardless of major can, at any point during their lifetimes, become some sort of “manager” or “administrator” or “entrepreneur.” Heck, I’m a Marketing major [minoring in Writing] and I just founded a start-up with my dad!] So do we really need a Business Admin degree if, again, all it’d be doing is scratching the surface of some core experience-based concepts? Just saying….)
