We all dream about finding the perfect guy–even though there’s no such thing as “perfect.” (Instead, I look for the guy that’s perfect for me.) So we think of aspects like personality, appearance (you know that one’s important–you have to be attracted to him!), and family, among others.
But I’d have to lie if I didn’t also think of his career stability. Specifically, I want him to have a good job that he likes and that yields him an attractive living. (Because let’s face it, I may want to be pursue a doctoral degree to be independent and be able to save plenty of dinero for my future kids, but I like it when a guy behaves like the man in a relationship, pays for things, and spoils me.)
Hence this post!
HERE ARE SOME CAREERS THAT I’M PRETTY SURE WOULD MAKE MY NEXT BOYFRIEND(S) EVEN MORE PERFECT POUR MOI
♥ LAWYER: One of the couple of things I regret about having left Facebook is my former Business Law prof (who’s a lawyer in real life) Jeff N’s posts. Although he’s a Liberal, he’d post these incredibly stimulating discussions that always made me evaluate what I believe while often reassuring me that I was in the right path. I particularly enjoyed how he looked at everything through a Law lens, and suddenly many things made sense when he commented on them using Law speak.
The point here is that, regardless of political ideologies, I bet getting to interact w/a lawyer (preferably not a lawyer-to-be, because he’d be crazy busy) who’s open to other views and not be stuck-up or a know-it-all would be fun, as he’d always bring a point of view that wasn’t commonly held by almost everyone else (because they’re not lawyers).
♥ CHEF: So you feel like making me something delicious every chance you get? Go right ahead! As long as it’s not a teeny tiny serving on a plate many times its size, chances are I’ll be happy. Plus, I’ll even help you clean up! AND if/once we’re married I’ll do the dishes and the laundry (but we can hire a cleaning service to take care of the rest).. (Subtract points if he’s a sushi chef because goodness knows I can’t stand that non-food.)
♥ RESTAURANTEUR: This one might be debatable as the last thing I’ll want in a relationship is to not spend time with my restauranteur boyfriend/hubby a la Caroline Manzo. In any case, I think a guy that runs a successful restaurant w/great food and an ambiance that people love is as appealing as a guy who cooks for you. Plus, the venue’ll always be free! (Am I the only one out there with even the tiniest bit of a dream of becoming an event planner–in another life?)
♥ DOCTOR: Free care. Nuff said. I won’t complain if mine looks like Dr. Danny Castellano*.. (Bonus points if he’s an internist or a pediatrician. Unless he’s Dr. Castellano, subtract points if he’s an OB-GYN, because, well, yeah.)
♥ ACADEMIC/PROFESSOR: Just like with a lawyer, I bet the convos I’d get to have with an academic fella will be just as stimulating. (Bonus points if he’s also in Marketing. Subtract points if he’s studying Accounting. Or Gender Studies. [Ugh.] Or any other field that doesn’t = a living.)
♥ PASTOR: See Pastor Casey.* (Ironically, I couldn’t stand it when a former boyfriend who seemed to know the Bible backwards and forwards posted inspirational stuff all over. It somehow came off as phony even though I’m sure he was as real as could be [or maybe he just wasn’t my type :).]. To me, if someone’s gonna make it their figurative business to be inspirational and stuff, then he better be literally invested in that. A la Pastor Casey. Or Joel Osteen.)
♥ ARCHITECT: So he can build our dream house, duh :)!
*Can’t you tell how much I adore The Mindy Project? Mindy Kaling is. a. genius. And Chris Messina (AKA Dr. Danny Castellano) is sooo swoon-worthy. Don’t believe me? Watch the vid I recorded of his little dance from last week’s episode and SWOON! <3
What careers do YOU wish your next boyfriend(s) had?
