Born and raised in Colombia, Annie Paul-Murphy learned English at an early age, like many Colombians.
She kept advancing her knowledge of it in school and by interacting with American media at home, until her family had to move to the USA when she was a teen, where she suddenly had to use it to communicate almost all the time.
Being “thrown” into a situation where her only choice was to use a different language outside of home taught her that the best way to learn something new is to submerge yourself in it so you’re “forced” to interact with it and take full advantage of it.
